Customs classify olives and olive oil with the Harmonized System (HS). The first six digits are the same in every country; countries add their own digits for tariffs and statistics (for example the EU Combined Nomenclature or Turkey’s GTİP).
Table olives
| HS code | Product |
|---|---|
| 0709.92 | Olives, fresh or chilled |
| 0710.80 | Olives, frozen (uncooked or cooked by steaming or boiling) |
| 0711.20 | Olives provisionally preserved, for example in brine, but unsuitable in that state for immediate consumption |
| 2001.90 | Olives prepared or preserved by vinegar or acetic acid |
| 2004.90 | Prepared olives, frozen |
| 2005.70 | Olives prepared or preserved otherwise than by vinegar, not frozen: the code for most retail and foodservice table olives |
Bulk olives in brine that still need processing before sale usually travel under 0711.20; olives ready to eat in brine, jars, tins or pouches fall under 2005.70.

Before you ship
Check the full national code and duty rate with the customs authority or a broker in the importing country, and use the same code on the commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin. Preferential duty under a trade agreement depends on rules of origin, not only on the code.
